Ancelotti: PSG showed signs of fatigue

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted the midweek Champions League match took its toll on his side as a Zlatan Ibrahimovic double salvaged a 2-1 comeback win for the Ligue 1 leaders over Nancy on Saturday.

• Blog: PSG move clear

PSG were forced to come from a goal down at the Parc Des Princes as Benjamin Moukandjo gave Nancy a 1-0 lead after 36 minutes. But a second half brace from Ibrahimovic temporarily moved the Parisiens five points above second-placed Lyon.

After a sluggish first half, which saw two one-on-one chances spurned by Lucas Moura and Blaise Matuidi, PSG looked a different side in the second period and Ancelotti believes Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Valencia was difficult to bounce back from.

"We saw two very different matches this evening," Ancelotti said. "In the first half, it was the same story as against Reims and Sochaux. We didn't have a good attitude. Then the second period was very different and we had a good reaction and lifted our intensity. We scored twice and controlled the match well.

"These games straight after the Champions League are very difficult because we don't have the same energy. But in the second half we showed a lot of character and energy in a crucial match for the championship."

Ibrahimovic took his season tally to 24 goals but was coy on his side's chances after the first half performance.

"I'm very happy... The second half was much better than the first," he said. "In the first half we missed two one-on-ones through Lucas and Matuidi, and then Nancy scored. At the start of the second half we were a goal behind and that's never easy. We showed great heart and made the sacrifices we needed to and won the match."

PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu was largely responsible for keeping the visitors at bay following the break, but believes his side force themselves into chasing results far too often.

"We have earned three very important points," he said. "We need to keep improving because we can't afford to only start playing after the opposition scores. We have to play like that from kick off.

"It's been a great week. We get to have a bit of rest now because we don't play until next Sunday. We will start training and looking towards next week's important match against Saint-Etienne."
