Tevez set for FA Cup start despite arrest

If Roberto Mancini thought the sale of Mario Balotelli would put an end to off-field matters regarding his strikers, the Italian better think again

Carlos Tevez could take his place in the starting line-up for Manchester City's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Barnsley on Saturday, despite facing charges of driving whilst disqualified.

• Blog: Another Tevez distraction
• Preview: Man City v Barnsley

Tevez, 29, was arrested on Thursday after being caught driving by police - a breach of the six month ban he was handed in January for speeding offences.

The Argentina international was released on bail and is set to be made available for selection in Roberto Mancini's side, but he could face a charge carrying a possible prison sentence of up to six months or a maximum £5,000 fine.

With Sergio Aguero injured and Mancini pledging to field a strong team as in previous rounds, Tevez could be crucial to his side's hopes of a semi-final berth and the City boss is taking no chances in ensuring the Premier League champions achieve domestic success this season.

City are currently 12 points behind league leaders Manchester United and while Mancini has failed to rule out a title defence, he is hopeful of taking at least one trophy back to the Etihad in May.

"We started this season wanting to win the Premier League again. We want to try until the last game," he said. "But if we take second position and win the FA Cup then I think it will be important for us because it's important to win one or two trophies every year.

"It's important that we go in the final and if we play against Man Utd, sure that will be a better game, but also (it would be a good game) against Everton, Wigan or Blackburn. For us it's important to go in the final."

Although Barnsley are languishing in the Championship's relegation zone, Mancini is eager to avoid complacency against the Tykes, using Arsenal's Capital One Cup disappointment as added motivation.

"These games are difficult because they don't have anything to lose and everyone can think it will be easy," the City boss said. "I have watched Barnsley and it is clear they are not Real Madrid, but these games are strange. I don't think many people thought Arsenal could go out in a game against Bradford."
