Friedel: We were near-perfect

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes the team produced a near-perfect performance to beat Inter Milan 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night.

• Blog: Few to match Spurs

Goals from Gareth Bale, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen sealed a comfortable victory at White Hart Lane and gave Spurs a great chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.

Andre Villas-Boas' men are now being touted as favourites to lift the Europa League trophy in Amsterdam next May - but Freidel is not getting too carried away despite the sparkling display against the Serie A giants.

"I suppose you could say it was near-perfect, but we will be reminded by the manager that we are only halfway to the quarter-finals," Friedel told the club's official website. "If you had offered us 3-0 against Inter Milan before kick-off we would have taken it, that's for sure.

"We were dominant from the off - we were outstanding. We put them under pressure, made them make mistakes when they were on the ball and were clinical in front of goal. We could have scored more goals, but you don't get six or seven goals too often in a game."

Friedel, who returned to action in his role as Tottenham's first-choice 'keeper for European matches ahead of Premier League No. 1 Hugo Lloris, made a vital second-half save to deny Inter an away goal said that could prove crucial in the final analysis.

"It was an important save because away goals are so important and having a clean sheet at home was vitally important," he said.

"They are still in the match at 3-0, but we are going out there with the intention of trying to get that decisive away goal, and if we do that it will be difficult for them to come back."

Tottenham head into Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool in confident mood, but are sweating on the fitness of in-form winger Aaron Lennon after he suffered a hamstring strain against Inter.
