Anouma unable to run for CAF presidency

Former Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) president Jacques Anouma has been prevented from running for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in this week's election after he failed in his bid to appeal against a ruling barring his involvement.

The CAF made a change to its statutes in September, allowing only voting members of its executive committee to run for the presidency, therefore ruling out Anouma. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed on Tuesday that it had accepted the change.

CAS said in a statement: "It was confirmed that the CAF Statutes adopted in September 2012 were applicable in assessing the validity of the candidates in the presidential election and Anouma did not meet these criteria because he had never been a member of the CAF executive committee."

Without Anouma's participation, CAF president Issa Hayatou is set to run uncontested for another four-year term in charge of the governing body for African football.

The election is due to be held in Marrakech on Sunday.
