Veh linked with Schalke job

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Armin Veh has become the latest name to be linked with the Schalke job for next season, according to kicker.

Veh follows the likes of Jupp Heynckes and Robert Di Matteo to be linked with the Royal Blues, who are believed to be searching for Jens Keller's predecessor before the start of the next campaign.

Keller took over the reins at the club earlier this season, following the sacking of Schalke legend Huub Stevens in late December. The former Stuttgart man was given a contract until the end of the season, and while the club has not ruled out that Keller will remain Schalke boss beyond the summer, other names are being discussed in Gelsenkirchen.

Local paper WAZ reports that four coaches are currently in the mix. According to the paper, the shortlist does not include Bayern Munich boss Heynckes, but does feature Keller, Di Matteo, former Greuther Furth boss Mike Buskens and Veh.

Veh is out of contract at the end of the season and has not negotiated a new deal with Frankfurt as of yet. He has repeatedly claimed he will not enter negotiations until this year's surprise package Frankfurt had reached the 40-point mark in the Bundesliga.

Veh's side currently sit fourth in the table with 38 points, but have not won or scored for four games, picking up two points in goalless draws against Nurnberg and Freiburg.

According to kicker, Schalke's general manager Horst Heldt has already offered Veh the Gelsenkirchen job. The contract has reportedly been negotiated and only needs to be signed.

"If there is a Schalke offer only Armin Veh and Horst Heldt know about it," Frankfurt chairman Heribert Bruchhagen told WAZ.

"We can live with that," Frankfurt general manager Bruno Hubner told Frankfurter Rundschau. "As when a coach is successful, he will always be interesting for other clubs. It was like that last year. Veh has done an exceptional job. Just like with our players the focus is now on him. That's down to our development."

Veh, however, kept quiet when pressed about the rumours on Monday.

"I am not in the mood to comment on such nonsense," he told Frankfurter Rundschau.

While Heldt told Bild: "This discussion on who will be our next coach has been going on for weeks now. Now it has become a lot of fun. We can live with speculation for a bit longer."
