Cassano apologetic over bust-up

Inter Milan forward Antonio Cassano has accepted he was in the wrong following a dressing-room bust-up with coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

Stramaccioni confirmed at his press conference on Saturday that Cassano would not be in the squad for Sunday's game against Catania, although he insisted "there was no physical contact". He added that the 30-year-old was not being "punished or frozen out" and said he would be back in the squad for Thursday's Europa League game with Tottenham Hotspur.

It appears Cassano has shown contrition for his behaviour, with Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio telling Sky Italia on Sunday: "He understood that he was wrong and accepts the decision taken by the coach and the club."

It would appear that Inter's irritation has less to do with Cassano's actions than the fact that the story was leaked to the media. Ausilio said that the source of the leak had not been identified as the club's focus was on the Catania game, but Stramaccioni had vented his frustration over the matter on Saturday.

"What happened between the two of us is a regular occurrence in the dressing room and should stay in the dressing room," Stramaccioni said. "I'm sorry that it leaked out because somebody is trying to hurt Inter."

Cristian Chivu, speaking to Sky, echoed the coach's sentiments.

"These things happen everywhere, although elsewhere they do not become public," he said. "I'm sorry about it because what happens in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room."
