Referee reveals Valdes abuse
Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes repeatedly told referee Miguel Angel Perez Lasa he should be "ashamed" after failing to award the Blaugrana a penalty at the end of their 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid.
Barca suffered a third defeat in four games on Saturday despite Jose Mourinho opting to rest a number of players ahead of his side's Champions League second-leg clash at Manchester United on Tuesday.
It proved a highly frustrating day for Barca, following on from the recent defeats to Milan in the Champions League and Madrid in the Copa del Rey, and Valdes was sent off as he confronted the referee over his failure to award Adriano a late penalty.
According to Marca, Perez Lasa wrote in his report: "Once the game had finished and while we were still on the field of play, I booked FC Barcelona player No. 1 Victor Valdes Arribas for addressing me with his arms raised and shouting at me in protest at one of my decisions.
"I then sent off this same player for confronting me just a few centimetres from my face and repeatedly shouting: 'You screwed up. You should be ashamed of yourself'.
"After I sent off the player, he continued in this vein and in the same manner repeatedly said, 'You should be ashamed of yourself', and he had to be held back by his team-mates and his team's steward.
"Once we were in the tunnel, the player continued in the same vein, repeatedly shouting the phrases mentioned above: 'You should be ashamed of yourself. You should be ashamed of yourself'."
Jordi Roura, standing in for Barca coach Tito Vilanova, had not seen the incident.
He said: "I went straight to the dressing room after the game and I didn't see anything.''
Roura suggested he believed Sergio Ramos had fouled Adriano and a penalty should have been awarded, but he was reluctant to be drawn on the subject.
He said: "I don't have anything more to say about the refereeing. I spoke during the week and to me it is perfectly clear if you look at the replays.''
Despite the defeat, Barca remain 13 points clear of third-placed Madrid at the top of La Liga.
