Allegri: Milan "deserve" third

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri says his team to "deserve" to be in third spot on the Serie A table after dismantling rivals Lazio 3-0 on Saturday.

Milan leap-frogged Lazio into the Champions League qualifying spot thanks to a brace from Giampaolo Pazzini and a strike from former Portsmouth attacker Kevin-Prince Boateng, as Lazio's challenge to keep the Rossoneri below them on the table disintegrated.

And an ecstatic Allegri told reporters after the game that the victory was further proof his side had found its best form.

"The team deserves to be in third place, as they are playing well," Allegri said. "We must remember to stay focused in our fight for Europe. These days we are more organised as a side, which makes it easier to win.

"We're in good shape, and I hope we can continue this way until season's end. We've got to concentrate on achieving this objective."

And despite watching his side lose its grip on the coveted third position, Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic could not have agreed more with his counter-part, believing his side had run into the form side of the competition.

However, the 49-year-old did point to the early dismissal of midfielder Antonio Candreva as the catalyst for the defeat.

"Milan are the team to beat, but from the 16th minute (when Candreva saw red0 onwards, it was to be a totally different game," Petkovic said. "When people complain about referees, I hope they don't forget us.

"As happened against Fiorentina, again we payed the price for certain decisions. While these things happened, we might have been on a par with Milan at full strength.

"I have to compliment my team however, as they tried to give their best till the end."
