Negotiations stall for Bremen duo

New Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin is facing a difficult task building a new team, with key players Kevin De Bruyne and Aaron Hunt refusing to discuss new contracts.

Kevin De Bruyne's future remains uncertain

De Bruyne, 21, is currently on a one-year loan from Chelsea. Werder Bremen are reportedly keen to keep the Belgium international, but, so far, the midfielder is not interested in discussing his future in Germany.

"It is not the right time to talk about my future," De Bruyne told Bild. "I think, I’ll be ready two or three games before the end of the season. Maybe even after the season."

Bremen currently sit 12th in Bundesliga, six points behind the Europa League spots. It is believed that De Bruyne will look into other options that guarantee him playing on the European level when his loan ends. Newly appointed Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin, however, has not given up on De Bruyne.

"We want to talk to them [De Bruyne and his agent Patrick de Kosta] soon and find out where we’re at. It is important to get a feeling how Kevin and his agent judge the situation."

De Bruyne has recently been linked with a transfer to fellow Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg and earlier this season had said he could also imagine staying at Chelsea. With De Bruyne refusing to negotiate a contract at Bremen another contract extension has been put on hold as well.

Hunt, 26, a key player for Werder this season with seven goals in 19 games, said he wanted to find out about the future at Bremen before extending his contract. The midfielder’s current deal ends at the end of next season and Bremen were hoping to extend Hunt’s stay before the summer.

“I am in no hurry,” Hunt told Syker Kreiszeitung. “That I am attached to the club is no secret. That’s why I can imagine extending my contract,” Hunt, who joined Bremen at the age of 14, said. But the midfielder added he wanted "to see if Nils Petersen or Kevin De Bruyne stay at the club. They are important players for us."
