Birmingham secure Ferguson loan deal

Newcastle youngster Shane Ferguson has joined Birmingham City on an emergency loan deal until April 1.

Ferguson, 21, a product of the Magpies’ academy, could make his Blues debut on Saturday when the club travel to the KC Stadium to face promotion-chasing Hull City.

With a number of promising youngsters currently on the books at St James’ Park, manager Alan Pardew is hoping to provide them with much-needed first-team football in a bid to aid their development.

“I am going to loan some others out,” he told the Evening Chronicle earlier this month. “Ferguson needs to go out and play. This year, I think it has been tough on him coming into the team when it has not been functioning well.

“Ferguson is a good player. He has played well for Northern Ireland. He needs to get ten games under his belt and I think we will then see a different player when he puts the black and white shirt on. Maybe two others will go out too.”

The left-sided player is one of several youngsters to be afforded temporary moves away from Tyneside, with Sammy Ameobi joining Middlesbrough earlier this week until the end of the current campaign.

“It’s too soon, maybe, in this first team (for Ameobi),” Pardew told the Evening Chronicle. “But the experience he will gain on loan at Middlesbrough will stand him in good stead for next season.

“I want to help Middlesbrough - they’re a good club. Hopefully, Sammy can do what he’s set out to do. We’ve got the option of getting him some experience.”
