Sagna ruled out of North London derby

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Bacary Sagna will not win his race to be fit in time to play in Sunday's North London derby at Tottenham.

Sagna, 30, was forced to miss Saturday's 2-1 win over Aston Villa after picking up a knee injury during the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

Carl Jenkinson filled in for the France international against Villa and is now likely to be thrust into the spotlight at White Hart Lane.

"He [Sagna] is not ready for Sunday. It is too short for him," Wenger said.

Wenger faces an anxious wait over the fitness of Abou Diaby, who was forced to come off during the Villa game due to a calf problem.

The midfielder, who only returned last month from a four-month lay-off, will face a late fitness test before the crunch clash with Spurs.

"Abou is an uncertainty. He has a calf problem, a minor one," Wenger said. "It is a question of days. He will have tests and then we will see if we can use him on Sunday or not. It is a 50:50. Actually maybe a bit more for him playing."

The Sagna news comes at a bad time for Wenger with his side needing to pull off a result on Sunday or risk finding themselves seven points behind rivals Tottenham in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.
