Robben thrilled with 'dream' goal

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has hailed his DFB-Pokal quarter-final match-winner against Borussia Dortmund as a "dream" goal.

• Blog: Bayern's Dortmund curse over

Robben's curled effort was the only goal of the game at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, as Bayern booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

The victory was the first time the Bundesliga leaders had beaten their German rivals in 41 months, while it also represented revenge for their 5-2 loss to Dortmund in the final last season.

"If you decide such a game with such a goal, you have to be happy," Robben said. "I am 29 now, but when you dream of such a game, you dream of scoring those goals."

The win means Bayern are still on course for the Treble, sitting comfortably at the top of the Bundesliga, while also holding a first-leg lead over Arsenal in the Champions League last 16.

"We want to win trophies. Today, we wanted to confirm we're in great shape," Robben said. "It was not only important for me but for our team as well."

Club captain Philipp Lahm said he was delighted for Robben, with the player having found life tough at Bayern this season, often finding himself on the bench. The Netherlands international only sneaked into the starting line-up following the suspension of team-mate Franck Ribery.

"He wanted to prove it to every single person in the stadium," Lahm said.

Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes was equally thrilled with his side's result and was full of praise for the team effort.

"All credit to my lads," he said. "My team showed we're not only capable of good and attractive football at the moment, we can scrap too. I think we deserved the win. It was a very intense match between two top-class teams."

After two years without trophies the club opened their purse during the summer, investing some €70 million into new players - a move that seems to be paying dividends now.

"We're back on top of German football. The German situation is solved. We have done a lot to return to the top," Bayern president Uli Hoeness said. "The spectators knew it was more than just a quarter-final. It was a game deciding supremacy in German football."

Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was gracious in defeat and admits his side were the inferior team on the night.

"We wouldn't have deserved to win today," he said. "And we congratulate Bayern on reaching the semi-finals."

Dortmund CEO Aki Watzke shared the sentiments of Klopp, although he felt the loss of Mats Hummels just hours ahead of the game due to flu was a key factor in the result.

"It was a deserved win for Bayern. Congratulations," he said. "Bayern were more aggressive during the first half. We had our problems due to the absence of Mats Hummels as our game changes without him."
