Pulis: Huth has let the team down

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has accused Robert Huth of letting himself and the team down after his forearm assault on Philippe Senderos resulted in a three-match ban for the player.

• Blog: A recipe for disaster

Huth clashed with Senderos during Stoke's 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday, with the defender admitting the charge of violent conduct on Wednesday.

And Pulis, who believed it would have been a waste of time for the club to contest the charge, says the former Chelsea man fully deserves his suspension

"What he did was wrong and he will have to take his punishment," he said. "I have great respect for Huthy and he is a player everyone loves here, but he hasn't only let himself down, he's let the group down.

"I can understand if people get booked or sent off for a mis-timed tackle, but what happened at Fulham is unacceptable and he understands that himself."

Pulis also wants Steven Nzonzi to try to control his temper after he was fortunate to avoid a red card against Fulham. The midfielder appeared to punch Bryan Ruiz in retaliation after a challenge from Dimitar Berbatov left him with a broken nose.

Nzonzi has been measured for a special face mask to ensure he can play against West Ham this weekend and Pulis has stressed the need for him to maintain his composure.

"I have spoken to Steven about it. He is getting a reputation for being a good footballer, so there will be players around trying to wind him up," Pulis said.

"I'm not saying he's a marked man, but we've noticed in the last month or so that there have been people winding him up. He's just got to learn to handle that kind of thing and take it as a compliment."
