Depressed Givet desperate to leave

Blackburn Rovers defender Gael Givet has given a bleak outlook on life in the Championship after admitting he would have "hanged himself" if it had not been for his family.

The Frenchman, who was talking to media back in his homeland, was thought to have made the comments in a joking manner, but that has not taken away from the impact Premier League relegation may have on a club.

The 31-year-old has found it difficult to adjust to playing in the Championship, playing only once since mid-December, and is looking likely to exit Rovers in the next transfer window.

And Givet admitted only the support of his family had kept him pushing through the misery of watching from the sidelines.

"Mentally, relegation to the second tier has been very hard to live with - and, even worse, I'm not even playing," Givet said.

"Luckily, I have my wife and two kids. If left alone in Blackburn, I'd have already hanged myself.

"In any event, I'm done for here. I've only played one match plus nine minutes in four months!"

"There have been approaches but the club's been asking €3 million or €4 million for me.

"And they told me: 'If you go out on loan, you'll have to renounce your final year of contract'.

"That's impossible! What if I get injured?"
