Lazio given two-game ban

Lazio have been ordered to play their next two home European matches behind closed doors following an investigation by UEFA into crowd trouble during their Europa League last-32 match against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Serie A club had been charged over the setting-off of fireworks, racist behaviour and insufficient organisation following the second leg in Rome six days ago, which Lazio won 2-0 to progress 5-3 on aggregate.

The crowd ban will apply to their next home fixture on March 14 against Stuttgart in the last-16 of the competition, while the club were also fined €40,000 by UEFA's control and disciplinary committee.

It is not the first time Lazio fans have fallen foul of European football's governing body, with the club having previously been punished for racism offences in matches against Tottenham and Slovenian side Maribor.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce will also have to play their next home European match in an empty stadium following a charge of throwing fireworks in their recent Europa League clash against BATE Borisov.

In addition, the Turkish club were fined €60,000 while they were also excluded from participating in the next UEFA club competition for which they qualify - a sanction that is deferred for a probationary period of two years.

Lazio and Fenerbahce were given three days to appeal against the decisions.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
