Simpson ready to help Toon

Danny Simpson has promised his commitment to Newcastle United will not wane as his contract approaches its end.

Simpson, who joined the Magpies from Manchester United in 2009, had been keen to extend his deal but now looks certain to leave on a free transfer in the summer.

With the 25-year-old having fallen further down the pecking order with the arrival of Mathieu Debuchy in January, it remains to be seen what part he will have to play in the run-in, but he has promised to give his all.

"It's been a tough few months but I've got a good relationship with the manager who knows my situation with the club," Simpson told The Journal. "There's three months to go and all I can do is train hard every day.

"I said to the manager whatever happens - injuries, suspension or whatever - he can rely on me if he does need me. That's all I can do, concentrate on training, and if I do get picked for the Europa League I've got to perform. Once the manager picks me and I'm on the pitch it's up to me to show what I can do. We'll just have to see in the summer what happens."

Simpson also said that the January signings were ones "the club needed and they've settled in really well", and those sentiments were echoed by Cheik Tiote.

"The manager made some good decisions to buy new players," Tiote told the Evening Chronicle. "This has really helped us. I think we will all be able to work well together. I think we have a great chance to win a lot of games.

"When you look at the list of games there are plenty of chances to win, if we work hard. We're happy with the squad we have here. Everybody gets on well and we are looking forward to the rest of the season. Things are looking a lot stronger and everybody must fight for their place. We can go for Europe as well. We want to go as far as possible in the Europa League."
