Hughton targets Canaries consistency

Norwich manager Chris Hughton wants his team to show consistency over the final stages of the Premier League season after watching them win their first game since December at home to Everton.

• Davit: Manchester United must heed the lessons of history

Hughton's Canaries had enjoyed a ten-match unbeaten league run before Christmas after suffering a difficult start to the campaign, but then went nine matches without victory before Grant Holt's injury-time strike defeated Everton 2-1.

That win put eight points between Norwich, who play Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, and the relegation zone.

Hughton, who took over from Paul Lambert in the summer, said the East Anglians were striving to join the ranks of established top flight clubs - this is their second season back in the Premier League after winning back-to-back promotions from League One.

He explained: "The teams that can be consistent are the teams that are used to this division, have the quality and are regular members of the division.

"We are still striving to be that, and along the road with that come the inconsistencies.

"The spirit has never been lacking. It has been there all season, but this is a tough league to get wins. We play a tighter game, and so perhaps it is difficult to get the wins we want.

"However, in the end, there is only one thing that matters and that is that, come the last game of the season, we have enough points to still be in this division.''
