Nolan suffers broken toe

West Ham United have revealed that captain Kevin Nolan broke his toe against Tottenham on Monday, an injury which could keep him out for up to eight weeks.

• Blog: Bale pinches derby

Nolan was substituted after just half an hour of Monday night's London derby. The midfielder hobbled off the Upton Park pitch following a tackle from Spurs midfielder Mousa Dembele and he was replaced by Matt Taylor. West Ham went on to lose the match 3-2, consigning Sam Allardyce's side to a run of just one win in their last seven Premier League games.

Nolan's foot was so swollen that a scan could only be done after a few days to determine the seriousness of the injury, which will rule him out of Saturday's trip to Stoke City and could also see him miss several more matches including upcoming trips to Chelsea and Liverpool as the Hammers bid to secure their top-flight status.

The midfielder is the club's top scorer in the Premier League this season with six goals.
