Betis hoping to extend Campbell stay

Real Betis are looking to extend the loan signing of Arsenal youngster Joel Campbell for another season and have organised talks with his parent club for next month.

Joel Campbell spent the 2011-12 season on loan with Ligue 1 club Lorient
Campbell seems to have caught the eye in Spain

The striker joined the Spanish side last summer and has scored two goals in 17 La Liga appearances.

Betis coach Pepe Mel is hoping to keep the 20-year-old for another year and talks are planned with the Gunners for early March.

“We are advancing the negotiations to reach an agreement,” Mel told Estadio Deportivo. “This won’t be easy but we want to speak in London with clarity and to agree a new loan. I believe that it will be positive for all parties.”

The Costa Rica international seems in no hurry to leave Betis but understands his obligations to Arsenal.

He said recently in the Daily Express: “I’ll give everything on the pitch for Betis and see what happens when the time comes. Arsenal are in charge of what I do. I’d also like to play for them but I am very comfortable here and I’ll defend Betis with all my heart.”

Campbell joined Arsenal in 2011 from Deportivo Saprissa but was forced to be sent out on loan to Lorient last year, before arriving in Spain, due to work permit issues.
