Palermo welcome back Gasperini

Serie A strugglers Palermo have brought back former head coach Gian Piero Gasperini 20 days after he left the club, following the sacking of Alberto Malesani after just three games.

Malesani became Palermo's third coach of the season when Gasperini was dismissed on February 4. However, with the Sicilians still stuck at the bottom of the table, president Maurizio Zamparini has decided to give the ex-Inter Milan boss another chance at Stadio Renzo Barbera.

A statement published on the club's official website read: "Palermo can confirm they have relieved Alberto Malesani of his duties and reappointed Gian Piero Gasperini.

"There is considerable regret because Alberto Malesani is a fine person and a great coach. We thank him for all the work he has done. The decision that has been taken seemed the only viable one at this difficult time.''
