Cech backs misfiring Torres

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is certain Fernando Torres will come good at Stamford Bridge, despite the striker enduring another frustrating outing for the club during midweek.

Torres, 28, signed for Chelsea from Liverpool for £50 million in January 2011 but has since struggled to justify that fee, with the Spain international scoring 14 goals in 72 Premier League matches.

The forward failed to find the back of the net during the Blues' 1-1 draw with Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday to make it five games without a goal.

Cech, though, is backing his team-mate, telling the Mirror: "During the 90 minutes against Prague we had so many chances, it was unbelievable we couldn't find the back of the net.

"But the worrying thing would be if he [Torres] never had a chance.

"If you want the strikers to have a chance to score, he has to create for himself or find himself in a situation to get a chance. He is getting there.

"You can see he is always getting in a situation to finish - like his one-on-one or the chance in the first half.

"His timing and position in the box was good in the first half but unfortunately he didn't put the ball in the back of the net. This is unlucky, but as long as he gets into the box, the goal will arrive.

"Everyone tries to support everyone in the team. We need everyone to play well and feel well to perform to help the team. We try to help each other and win games."
