Bradford could snub Europe

Joint-chairman Mark Lawn says Bradford may refuse to play in next season's Europa League if they win the Capital One Cup final against Swansea, but believes his club will lose the decider anyway.

• Preview: Swansea v Bradford City

The Bantams head into their first major final in over a century as underdogs, but have enjoyed a thrilling run to the Wembley clash. Lawn, though, says the club are not willing to incur any costs should they upset Swansea and qualify for European competition.

"I'm not going to pay to play in Europe," Lawn told The Sun. "When we beat [Aston] Villa [in the semi-finals], I was told, 'You don't really want to get into Europe - it costs you money in the early rounds'. I said, 'Well, that'll be fun because if it costs us money, we won't be there'.

"Realistically, it's not going to be a problem because I don't think we're going to win against Swansea.

"I won't put us in fiscal danger to play in Europe. That's not going to happen. I'm deadly serious.

"It's all very well saying there are financial rewards once you get to the group stage. But we're a fourth division club - realistically, we're not going to get there."

League Two side Bradford have gone through the process of administration twice in recent years. The winner of Sunday's final will be entered into the third qualifying round of the 2013-14 Europa League.
