Lotito plays down Petkovic exit

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has quashed rumours that manager Vladimir Petkovic could leave the club.

Bosnian Petkovic, the only foreign manager in Italy's top flight, has impressed with his desire for attacking football and he has led the Rome side to fourth spot after replacing Edy Reja in June 2012.

Indeed, Lotito is aware of the speculation linking the 49-year-old with a move away from the club, but has remained resolute that he is staying put.

"Petkovic is under contract with us and he is a good guy," Lotito stated. "I don't think he's unhappy at Lazio and I don't see why he should leave.

"I'd like to discourage people to court players and coaches who are under contract as that doesn't represent the values of sport."

German club Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with a move for Petkovic as they consider the future of manager Jurgen Klopp, who has been rumoured to be set to move to Chelsea this summer, although he denied the speculation last week.

Petkovic, who holds Croatian and Swiss passports and speaks fluent Serbo-Croatian, English, German, French and Italian, made his name in the Swiss league with Young Boys before taking a temporary role with FC Sion in 2012.
