Eric Abidal fit for Barca play

BARCELONA, Spain -- Barcelona says Eric Abidal is fit to play for the first time since receiving a liver transplant last April.

The 33-year-old France defender's last appearance for Barcelona was in February 2012.

Abidal has had two long-term layoffs because of his liver. He underwent surgery to remove a liver tumor in March 2011 and returned to the team before the end of the season. The France international had to stop playing a second time last spring when doctors determined he needed a transplant.

He has been training with the team since December.

Barca is 12 points clear of second-placed Atletico in La Liga with 14 games to go, with Sevilla the visitors to the Nou Camp this weekend.

Barca is also in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey, locked at 1-1 with Real Madrid after the first leg at the Bernabeu. Barca is also in the last-16 of the Champions League, where they lost their first leg 2-0 to AC Milan last night.
