Walters looking to improve away record

Jon Walters wants to put an end to Stoke City's miserable away record to help the club clinch their first ever top-ten finish in the Premier League.

• Shea in line for debut at Fulham

Stoke have won just once in their last 22 trips away from the Britannia Stadium, drawing nine times in that time, and their last away win came against West Bromwich Albion in December.

Walters knows their record has to improve drastically if Tony Pulis' side are to reach their goal of breaking into the top half of the league, although he insists there is no psychological problem

"There's no barrier," he said in The Sentinel ahead of the trip to Fulham on Saturday. "We don't go into any game thinking anything except trying to get a result. I didn't realise our record was so bad, so it would be something nice to improve on - well, we can only improve on it really."

Walters would also like to give Stoke's loyal travelling supporters something to smile about, adding: "They spend a lot of money and they are working-class people, so it would be nice to give them a win on the road.

"The majority of teams are stronger at home and we want to carry on making it as hard as possible for teams coming to the Britannia Stadium, but obviously you want to take that away with you as well because we get tremendous support and it would be nice to give them more wins.

"We've got to keep chipping away at that record, and if we can keep our home form going then we can have a good end to the season."

Walters insists a top-ten finish in the Premier League has to be the aim once Stoke have reached the 40-point safety target set by Pulis.

"A lot of people go into holiday mode, but we have got to carry on and keep our minds right on it until the end," he said. "I don't think anyone here will get complacent - and nor will they allowed to be. Hopefully we can finish our season nice and strong."
