Scharner dreams of Wigan at Wembley

Paul Scharner is dreaming of playing at Wembley as he hopes to become the first man to play in two cup finals for Wigan.

• Brown: Wigan down but not out

The Austrian midfielder has returned to the DW Stadium on loan from Hamburg for the rest of the season and helped them reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup by beating Huddersfield 4-1 on Sunday.

When he first arrived at Wigan in 2006, he made a goal-scoring debut against Arsenal in the semi-finals of the League Cup and went on to appear in the 4-0 final defeat to Manchester United in Cardiff.

But now Wembley has been rebuilt and Scharner is hoping Wigan can overcome either Everton or Oldham in the last eight of the FA Cup to book themselves an appearance at the national stadium.

"I remember very well getting to the final of the Carling Cup back in 2006 in my first year with Wigan," he told wigantoday.net.

"The game was played at the Millennium Stadium down in Cardiff, which was okay I suppose but it wasn't Wembley Stadium.

"Everyone wants to play at Wembley whether you are from England or overseas, and it is a big target for me this year.

"Wherever you go in the world, everyone knows about Wembley Stadium and it would be a dream for me to play there for Wigan Athletic."
