Sam's our man, says West Ham's Gold

West Ham co-chairman David Gold has given his backing to manager Sam Allardyce, saying the former Bolton and Newcastle boss is "our man".

• Blog: Big Sam fights law, law wins
• Allardyce: Treat me like Moyes

Allardyce is out of contract at Upton Park in the summer, and the east Londoners have suffered a dip in form - leading to speculation that a change could be made at the end of the season.

The recent resignation of West Ham legend Paulo Di Canio as the manager of League One Swindon sparked suggestions that Gold and co-owner David Sullivan could move for the Italian.

Gold, who said West Ham would not hold talks with Allardyce about a new deal until they were assured of Premier League safety, re-tweeted two messages from fans in favour of Di Canio and two in favour of Allardyce.

And in a tweet of his own, he wrote: "Always interesting to see the different opinions from people on Twitter. My view is clear though - Big Sam is our man! dg.''

Allardyce joined West Ham at the start of last season and steered them to promotion from the Championship through the play-offs.

However, his style of football has not been universally well-received by the club's fans, and his side's most recent result - a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa - left them seven points above the relegation zone.
