Verratti backs Ventura for Italy success

Bassong confident of Canaries' survival

Sebastien Bassong has said he believes Norwich City will bounce back from their current disappointing run of form and ensure they are still a Premier League club next season.

The Canaries are without a victory in nine league games and have not won since beating Wigan at Carrow Road before Christmas in what turned out to be the last match of a 10-game unbeaten run.

But Bassong, who moved to East Anglia from Tottenham earlier in the season, said he believed the Canaries - currently six points clear of the drop zone - could recapture that sort of form and move up the table again.

"We've had a great season so far at Norwich, and I think we'll be OK," the Cameroon international defender told Sky Sports' Soccer AM.

"We've got a really good team and a squad of good quality. We haven't been on a great run for 10 games now, and we're having a tough time. But we'll bounce back and we'll be safe."

Former Newcastle player Bassong has contributed three goals to a Norwich side that has sometimes struggled to find the target and said: "When you get up front and you score goals, you're happy about it.

"If I was asked to play up front, I would do it. I'd get tired quick as you have to make different runs, but if I could score I'd be so delighted and tell the boss: 'You've got to put me up front every week.'"

Winger Elliott Bennett also said he felt Norwich could revisit the heights of their pre-Christmas run, during which they beat both Arsenal and Manchester United in Norfolk.

He told the Premier League's weekly official podcast: "We are working hard every day in training, and that is always with the aim to go out there at the weekend and play well and get the result.

"We have a strong belief within the squad. We know what we are capable of and we just hope we can hit that high standard of the unbeaten run again.

"If we do that then I am sure we'll be fine, but really it is about focusing on the next game. We can't really look backwards."
