Terim turns to Drogba and Sneijder

Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim thinks that the signings of Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder have improved his side as they prepare to take on Schalke in the Champions League last-16.

Drogba, 34, opened his goalscoring account for his new club in last Friday's 2-1 win over Akhisar Belediyespor after joining from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua in January and Terim believes it will give his side a good chance of progression in Europe.

"It [the win] gave us a morale boost ahead of the Schalke game," Terim said. "When he is fit, Drogba has the ability both to keep the ball for us up front and to lead the team.

"When you add Sneijder to that, we will perform much better. Both have integrated with the team very quickly."

Schalke, who have managed only one win in their last 12 games since they beat Olympiakos back in November, will see interim coach Jens Keller given his first taste of Champions League action.

Keller took over from the dismissed Huub Stevens in December, but has picked up only one win from six games in all competitions and midfielder Marco Hoger knows a tough test awaits his team in Istanbul.

"Fear is always a bad adviser," Hoger told the club's official website. "Galatasaray has great players like Didier Drogba, Wesley Sneijder and some more. Respect is of course there but we fear no one."

Schalke's captain Benedikt Howedes added: "We don't need to be afraid. A cauldron awaits us, but these are also games you have to look forward to."

Schalke will be without several other key players, with Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Atsuto Uchida, Ibrahim Afellay and Ciprian Marica all missing out. However, Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar looks likely to return after struggling with an eye injury in recent matches.

"We also have good players in our ranks," Hoger said. "The fact that Huntelaar is fit again is important. In the current Champions League season, he has already achieved some great results. We all hope that he keeps it up in Istanbul."
