Petersen stresses wish to stay at Bremen

On-loan Bayern Munich striker Nils Petersen has again said he wants to stay on at Werder Bremen when his loan finishes at the end of the season.

- Bayern 'not planning Lewandowski talks'

Petersen, 24, moved to Bayern after finishing the 2010-11 season as the top scorer in the second tier, netting 25 goals in 33 games for Energie Cottbus, but he has failed to force his way into the first-team at the Allianz Arena.

He has spent the current season on loan at Bremen and, while the agreement does not involve an option for a permanent deal, he is keen to stay on, having scored 11 goals this season.

“If I’m not in the reckoning at Bayern next season, I will only consider Bremen,” Petersen, whose deal with Bayern is due to expire in 2015, told Kreiszeitung Syke. “I am pretty sure about that. I know that you should never say never, but looking elsewhere is out of question for me. I feel way too comfortable here.”

Bremen are currently 11th in the table, but Petersen believes they have the capability to improve with time.

“We have a young and powerful squad that can be a bit wet behind the ears at times,” he said. “We have the potential to do better than 11th. I want to be part of the squad when we do that next year.

“We have a great stadium. I get a kick out of playing here. You always get the impression that things are never over.”

Having lost their last match 3-2 to Freiburg, despite Petersen’s brace, Bremen face a trip to Bayern next weekend.

“I am looking forward to the game,” Petersen said. “It is always nice at the Allianz Arena. Everybody believes we stand no chance at Munich but, unlike those games against clubs like Freiburg, we don’t have any pressure. We have looked good in those games. Werder can surprise the big teams.”
