Blackpool appoint Ince as boss

Blackpool have announced the appointment of Paul Ince as their new manager on a one-year rolling contract.

Ince, who will be linking up with his son Thomas, is the third manager of the season at Bloomfield Road, following the exits of Ian Holloway and Michael Appleton to Crystal Palace and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

The former England captain will be taking charge of his fifth club after spells at Macclesfield Town, MK Dons, Blackburn and Notts County. The appointment ends almost two years in the managerial wilderness for Ince.

After taking his first Blackpool training session at Squires Gate on Monday morning, the new Seasiders boss spoke of his excitement at embarking on the new challenge.

"It's great to be here," he told the club's official website. "Considering I've watched the team play for the last 14 months, it's strange sitting here as the manager, having obviously watched Blackpool as a fan as well as watching my son play.

"I'm over the moon though and delighted, it's great to be back on the training ground and great to be involved with, and in charge of, a great bunch of lads. I've worked with a lot of players and the spirit and togetherness of the lads is absolutely fantastic. I'm glad I've been given the opportunity by [chairman] Karl Oyston."

The Seasiders are currently 14th in the Championship, ten points from a play-off spot and six above the relegation zone.

Ince's son Thomas, who attracted interest from Liverpool and Reading during the transfer window, is Blackpool's top scorer this season with 17 goals in 33 games.
