McClaren rubbishes Twente exit talk

Steve McClaren has dismissed talk that his spell as FC Twente manager is nearing an end, insisting he is determined to reverse the club's current fortunes.

A recent dip in form for the Dutch side has seen them fall from joint-top of the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven to six points behind Dick Advocaat's men in third place.

Twente were expected to claim their first win of 2013 on Saturday when bottom club Willem II visited, however, they could only manage a 1-1 draw.

The visitors scored a 90th minute equaliser, leading to a section of the home support to unfurl a banner reading 'Steve go home', while others waved white handkerchiefs.

McClaren, though, says he is going nowhere and is sure the club will soon get back to winning ways.

"I believe in this club and the players," he told the press. "This will turn around, of that I have no doubt. At the moment we are sitting in the middle of a storm. It happens in football.

"If we keep working hard then the results will come. We can't give up and feel sorry for ourselves. We are good enough to get back up and I know that this group can do that."

McClaren returned to Twente for his second spell as manager at the club in January 2012.
