Milan chief ready for Barca clash

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani believes the club have nothing to fear when taking on Barcelona in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday.

• Bojan relishing Barca tie

Galliani was speaking as the Rossoneri - who moved into fourth place in Serie A following their 2-1 victory over Parma on Friday - prepare to welcome the Catalan giants to the San Siro.

Having come up against the Spanish side a number of times of late, the Milan chief is confident of his side's chances.

"Destiny means we have met Barcelona six times in two seasons," Galliani said. "But we have no psychological weakness towards them."

Galliani also spoke of his hope that striker Stephan El Shaarawy will be fit in time to face Barca, after missing the Parma game due to a knee problem.

"We hope that El Shaarawy can recover in time for the match," he said. "It is fortunate we signed Mario Balotelli in January as Giampaolo Pazzini has been injured and El Shaarawy is trying to recover from a knee inflammation."

While Balotelli is ineligible to compete in Europe for his new club, Galliani feels his impact on the squad since arriving will prove to be invaluable.

"Balotelli inspires the other players, sort of like the Zlatan Ibrahimovic effect," he said. "He gives strength and his performances have a collateral effect on the others. His goals are proof we didn't just buy him for his media impact."
