Warnock resigned to fate

Neil Warnock accepted his time as Leeds manager is coming to an end and said he could leave Elland Road before the end of the season.

• Jolly: City stars repay Mancini
• FA Cup quarter-final draw

The 64-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Leeds fans chanted "Warnock, time to go" during their 4-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

Warnock said he does not expect to be manager of Leeds, who are eight points off the play-offs in the Championship, if they do not go up and does not want to work in the second tier next season.

He said: "If we don't go up, I won't be there. I think the fans knew that all along. There's no way I want to stay in the Championship again next year."

Warnock felt supporters' criticism of him was unfair but said he understood their frustrations.

He added: "I don't think I deserve that. They are so desperate to get back in the big time. When they see the opportunity fading, the manager has got to be the scapegoat."

Warnock feels his future is now in the hands of GFH Capital, who took over from former owner Ken Bates in December.

He admits he could be sacked before the end of the season and said he is willing to step aside if they feel it is in the club's interests.

He said: "It's their prerogative. I don't want to leave them in the lurch. If they think it will help them then I am not against it. I am a bit old in the tooth. What has gone on behind the scenes in the last 12 months, I think I deserve a medal."

The veteran has previously managed Scarborough, Notts County, Torquay, Huddersfield, Plymouth Argyle, Oldham, Bury, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers, winning seven promotions.

But this is his third consecutive club where there has been a change of ownership during his reign.

"I am a bit of unlucky to have three clubs and three takeovers," he added. "That seems to follow me around."
