Real win derby, Atleti close gap

Real Madrid assistant coach bemoans sending off of Sergio Ramos, saying it ruined the game.

Real Madrid eased to a relatively comfortable 2-0 La Liga derby victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Bernabeu despite playing over 70 minutes with a man less following Sergio Ramos' dismissal.

Madrid had looked set to run riot in Jose Mourinho's 100th league game in charge after scoring twice in the opening 12 minutes through Alvaro Morata and Ramos while going close on a number of other occasions. However, they had their wings clipped when Ramos was sent off in the 18th minute after picking up two soft bookings in quick succession.

Atletico Madrid cruised to a 3-0 away win at Valladolid to close the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona to 12 points.

Falcao grabbed his 60th goal for the club in just 75 games as he pounced on a rebound from Diego Godin's volley to put the visitors ahead on 11 minutes.

It was 2-0 shortly after the break as Koke's flick allowed Diego Costa to finish off a fine move before Cristian Rodriguez capitlised on a defensive mistake to add some gloss in the dying stages.

Real Sociedad missed a chance to gain ground in their bid to qualify for the Europa League by failing to beat Levante at home drawing 1-1.

Both goals came from penalties in the first half, scored by Carlos Vela for the hosts and Michel for the visitors, who played most of the second half with 10 men after left-back Nikos Karabelas was sent off for picking up two bookings.

Ten-man Valencia claimed an unlikely 2-0 win to add to struggling Real Mallorca's relegation worries.

Things looked to be going wrong for the hosts when a slow start was compounded by having midfielder Tino Costa sent off in the 28th minute. But Mallorca could not take advantage and went behind in the 59th minute when Ricardo Costa headed Valencia in front.

Roberto Soldado doubled the lead in the 81st minute to boost his side's top-four hopes and leave Mallorca rooted in the bottom three.
