Cisse rues disallowed goals

Papiss Cisse revealed his frustration as Newcastle United were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw at home to Metalist Kharkiv in the Europa League on Thursday night.

• Heneage: Controversy reigns
• Blog: Disallowed goals a real shame

Cisse saw two seemingly legitimate goals chalked off by the officials in the first at St James' Park, leaving Newcastle with it all to do ahead of the second leg in the Ukraine.

"It is down to the linesman," he said in the Evening Chronicle. "He said no and, once he's made his decision, it's a no. There's nothing you can do.

"It's so frustrating. I think we should be talking about a win. That would have been very, very good for the team, but the other team tried very hard and denied us. We just couldn't get the win.

"We can win the second leg and we'll be going over there to give it everything. We are confident of still doing the job and getting through."

Cisse missed a trio of good chances, including a diving header in injury time, as Newcastle failed to score at home in the Europa League for the first time in 14 games, but he remains confident of progress.

"We can win the second leg and we'll be going over there to give it everything," he said. "We are confident of still doing the job and getting through."
