Lehmann fears for Gunners' Euro chances

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes his old club will find it tough when they take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday.

Bayern have been in impressive form this season, opening up a 15-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga and have not lost since October.

Arsenal welcome the Bavarian club to the Emirates Stadium for the first leg, but Lehmann feels they are at a disadvantage with Bayern currently feeling the benefits of a winter break. Last season's Champions League finalists have picked up four straight wins since the restart of the German league.

"For an English team it is the worst draw to play a German team directly after the winter break," Lehmann said in a column for Sport Bild.

"In addition to that Bayern has not been really challenged for once yet in the second half of their season. The only stress they have is the one at the training sessions.''

However, the former Germany international does believe his old side have the players to cause their opponents problems.

"(Bayern coach) Jupp Heynckes will warn his players of the speed that Arsenal still can play in the offensive game, especially Theo Walcott but also more and more Lukas Podolski can be very dangerous," he said.

"Vice-versa, Arsenal will look to stop Bayern creating their good positioning game from which they can accelerate.''

Arsenal will travel to Munich for the return leg, which takes place at the Allianz Arena on March 13.
