AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy is to be rested for Friday's Serie A game against Parma in order to be fit to face Barcelona next week.
El Shaarawy, 20, has been in sensational form this season, netting 15 goals in 22 league starts, but recently it was revealed he is suffering with tendonitis in his knees. He missed training on Wednesday and will now be saved for the Champions League showdown at the San Siro on Wednesday.
"El Shaarawy has a bit of swelling in his tendon and we left him out to allow him to rest physically and mentally ahead of next week," Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
The Rossoneri have had their match against Parma brought forward to allow extra preparation time for their last-16 meeting with the Catalan giants. Mario Balotelli is almost certain to feature given that he is cup-tied and cannot play against Barcelona.
