England climb to fourth in FIFA rankings

England have moved up to fourth in the FIFA World Rankings after their 2-1 friendly victory over Brazil last week.

The top three - Spain, Germany and Argentina - remain unchanged, but Italy have fallen to fifth and Colombia dropped to sixth, level on points with Portugal. Netherlands, Croatia and Russia make up the rest of the top ten.

Greece stay 11th, while Ecuador held onto 12th place - their highest ever ranking - although they are now level on points with Ivory Coast, who moved up two.

African Nations Cup semi-finalists Ghana moved up seven places to 19th, trailing France and Brazil, while Nigeria, who became continental champions on Sunday, are up 22 places to 30th. Defeated finalists Burkina Faso leapt 37 places to 55th.

The FIFA World Ranking is based on a four-year cycle, taking into account results, status of matches, the strength of the opposition and the strength of football in the region.
