Blues rebuff Shanghai bid for King

Birmingham City have rebuffed a bid for striker Marlon King from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, according to reports.

Birmingham striker Marlon King celebrates after converting a penalty to level the scores at 2-2

The controversial forward, who served time in prison for sexual assault and actual bodily harm, was told he could leave the club in January, along with the rest of Birmingham's first-team squad.

King has 13 goals for the Blues this campaign and Shanghai were keen to add to their striking ranks after the high-profile departures of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba, who both returned to Europe.

The transfer window in China is open until the start of March and clubs can sign players from Europe even though their own window has closed.

But it seems Birmingham are keen to keep hold of the 32-year-old Jamaican as they try to pull away from the drop zone.
