Stramaccioni to pick strongest XI

Andrea Stramaccioni has promised to field "the best possible line up" in Thursday's Europa League round of 32, while admitting the changes made to his Inter Milan squad in January were difficult.

The Inter coach was speaking ahead of his side's meeting with CFR Cluj, a tie which he promised the club would be seeking to qualify from despite their poor recent domestic form.

The Nerazzurri have won just one of their last five Serie A matches but Stramaccioni continues to push the club in his aim to win European glory.

"It's not my intention to rotate the squad in terms of quality," he told a press conference on Wednesday. "Tomorrow I'll try to field the team that I believe can do the best job.

"The only exceptions will be made by considering the players' physical condition, but I'd never talk about rotating the team just for the sake of it; I'm honouring this commitment and the Europa League, which means fielding the best possible line-up."

Stramaccioni, 37, also took time to comment on the changes made to Inter's UEFA squad list, made after the transfer window closed at the end of last month. Ricky Alvarez and Cristian Chivu were added to the list, as was new signing Mateo Kovacic.

However, fellow January arrivals Tommaso Rocchi, Zdravko Kuzmanovic, Ezequiel Schelotto and Juan Pablo Carrizo all missed out.

"It was very difficult, but I think we paid for this by having to originally name it practically at the end of July," he continued. "Then later with the changes we made we paid for the construction of the team, which took place step by step.

"Then when we rounded out the squad, we weren't able to make all the changes we wanted in the following transfer window. I preferred to select the players that would allow me to reinforce the areas where I had fewer alternatives.

"Unfortunately it wasn't a technical choice but rather one of squad management."
