Hoffenheim duo fined after carnival row

Hoffenheim players Tim Wiese and Tobias Weis have been fined by the club after they were thrown out of a carnival party on Monday.

The duo, dressed up as a prisoner (Weise) and a caveman (Weis) were thrown out of the party in Neckarsulm by security after an incident in the men's bathroom, according to Bild.

"The two were asked to leave the venue," Harald Schumacher, a police spokesman, told the paper. "Their behaviour was rude. Presumably consumption of alcohol was to blame. There will be no complaint."

Weis, 27, defended his actions, saying the incident which led to the ejection of himself and veteran goalkeeper Weise was all a misunderstanding.

"As the ladies bathrooms were packed, I took my girlfriend Derya to the gents," the midfielder told Bild. "As a result security got involved. That's when the trouble started."

However, Weis' excuse for the cause of the row did not satisfy Hoffenheim, who confirmed they have punished the two players.

"In principle - and even in our tense situation - we indeed understand our players have a private life and need to take one step back from the daily routine as a pro," Hoffenheim general manager Andreas Muller said in a club statement. "However, Tobias Weise and Tim Wiese have definitely gone too far.

"They have ignored their function as role models. This cannot go without consequences. We need peace and concentration ahead of our next Bundesliga game against Stuttgart."

The club, currently 16th in the Bundesliga, did not disclose the amount each player was fined.

Former Germany international Wiese was recently taken out of the first-team picture at Hoffenheim - who say he is no longer able to handle the immense pressure placed upon him on the field - and have replaced him with on-loan Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
