Nacional earn comeback draw

Uruguayan side Nacional came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Ecuador's Barcelona in the opening game of the Copa Libertadores group stage.

Barcelona took an early two-goal lead thanks to strikes from their Argentinian forwards, but Nacional reacted to claim a Group One point.

Damian Diaz put Barcelona ahead in the 17th minute and Ariel Nahuelpan doubled the advantage eight minutes later.

Washington Sebastian Abreu came off the bench to reduce the deficit with a header.

Barcelona defender Jose-Luis Perlaza was shown a red card in the 75th minute and Nacional defender Alejandro Lembo was sent off after a foul on Juan Paredes-Reasco two minutes later.

A few minutes before the final whistle, Chilean referee Enrique Osses did not awarded a penalty after Nacional midfielder Israel Damonte appeared to foul Diaz in the box - and Alejandro Ivan Alonso levelled the duel with another header after a free-kick in injury time.

Nacional coach Gustavo Diaz commented: "In the second half we took risks. We could have won or lost the game in the end, but we had to go for the win."

Universidad de Chile overcame Venezuelan debutants Deportivo Lara 2-0 in Group Seven with a brace by Sebastian Ubilla.

The striker put the hosts ahead at the Estadio Nacional with a 34th-minute goal after a Ramon Fernandez assist.

With 15 minutes to go, Ubilla shot over the body of Deportivo Lara keeper Allan Liebeskind to consolidate the win.

"We needed a victory like this and to become strong at home, because we've been drawn in a very tough group," Ubilla told Fox Sports.

Finally in Group Four, Ecuador's Emelec saw off Argentinian champions Velez Sarsfield 1-0 at home in Guayaquil thanks to an own goal by forward Facundo Ferreyra four minutes into the second half.

Velez ended the match with 10n men as defender Fernando Tobio saw red after he fouled Marlon De Jesus in the 62nd minute.
