Sydney FC part ways with Jason Culina

Jason Culina has terminated his contract with Sydney FC by mutual consent after last week's training ground bust-up with coach Frank Farina.

Culina, 32, signed with Sydney in October last year after returning from a career-threatening injury which kept him on the sidelines for more than 18 months.

But after just eight games with the Sky Blues, the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder has moved on and with three days remaining in the Asian transfer window, Culina could be hurriedly searching for a new club.

It is believed Culina refused to take instructions from Farina at a training session last week and he was subsequently omitted from Sydney's line-up for the 2-1 win over Brisbane on Sunday.

In a statement from the club on Monday afternoon, Culina said: "I would like to thank Sydney FC for assisting me with my rehabilitation and my return to football. I would like to thank the Board, management, coaching staff, players and especially physiotherapist Stan Ivancic.

"The circumstances surrounding my departure are unfortunate but I feel fit and strong and I am determined to continue my playing career in the future."

Culina's departure added to an eventful day in the A-League after Perth Glory announced the departure of coach Ian Ferguson. Ferguson will be replaced by Australia's Under-17's coach Alistair Edwards until a permanent coach is appointed in the summer.
