Roma eye up Blanc for next season

Roma have confirmed they are considering former France coach Laurent Blanc to take over at the helm of the Giallorossi for next season following the sacking of Zdenek Zeman.

• Panucci sounded out for Roma job

After slipping to defeat to Cagliari last Friday - a result which means Roma have yet to win in Serie A this year - Zeman was relieved of his duties, despite having only been appointed last June.

Long-time backroom staff member Aurelio Andreazzoli was named as a temporary replacement for the Czech, and Roma have acknowledged Blanc is in the running to take over at the Stadio Olimpico on a permanent basis ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

"Blanc is part of a shortlist for next season. I like Laurent Blanc," Roma director general Franco Baldini told RMC radio, while confirming there would be no permanent appointment before the summer. "For next season, it's something different. He's on a shortlist with other coaches."

Blanc, who has been out of a coaching job since leaving the French national side following their Euro 2012 exit, played for both Napoli and Inter Milan during his career.

The former Bordeaux boss' name was first linked to the Roma job at the end of January only for the Serie A club to reiterate their backing for Zeman prior to the loss against Cagliari, which left them in eighth position, nine points outside of the Champions League qualifying places.
