Badstuber to commit future to Bayern

Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber is set to extend his contract with the club until 2017.

Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced on Wednesday that the Germany international, whose current deal ends in June 2014, will commit himself to the club for a further three years.

General manager Matthias Sammer has also confirmed the news, saying that the new deal should be tied up over the next few days.

"We are in good talks," he told kicker. "One or two issues need to be discussed. When a contract ends in 2014, you have to act now."

Badstuber joined the club's youth academy in 2002 and has become an important member of the first team, going on to make over 100 appearances.

Bayern have yet to act on tying down Claudio Pizarro, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Daniel van Buyten, though, whose contracts are all set to expire at the end of the season.

Kicker claim the trio want to discuss personal matters with future manager Pep Guardiola, who takes over in the summer, before making a decision.

"Those decisions will be taken at a later point," Sammer said. "Our focus is on the championship only."
