Grosskreutz signs new Dortmund deal

Local hero Kevin Grosskreutz has penned a new contract with Borussia Dortmund, extending his stay at the club for two more years.

Grosskreutz, 24, has caught the eye this season thanks to some impressive performances in Dortmund's Champions League campaign, leading to the player being linked with a move away from the German champions.

However, Dortmund have moved fast to tie down a player who has made 113 Bundesliga appearances for the club since arriving from Rot Weiss Ahlen in 2009.

"Kevin has always been a player with a high degree of identification with Borussia Dortmund," general manager Michael Zorc said. "We are delighted that we have been able to secure another important component of our team on a long-term basis."

Grosskreutz, who has featured 16 times this season for the German club, was equally delighted to have signed the new deal.

"I was, I am and will be a Borusse," he said. "I'm happy to continue playing for the Die Schwarzgelben. Borussia Dortmund were always my priority, and I will give everything to be help the team be successful."

Dortmund have now agreed deals with most of their key players, with only goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller, captain Sebastian Kehl and, most notably, Poland international Robert Lewandowski still on contracts that expire in 2014.
