Palermo have confirmed Alberto Malesani as their new coach, with Giorgio Perinetti returning as sporting director.
That was confirmed in a brief statement on the official Rosanero website on Tuesday, and sees Gasperini make his return to coaching after being fired by Genoa in April last year.
Despite winning the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and Italian Super Cup, as well as securing two fourth-place finishes, during a three-year stint with Parma, the 58-year-old is most famous for an expletive-laden tirade against journalists during his time with Greek club Panathinaikos in 2006.
It appears his appointment also caused friction between volatile owner Maurizio Zamparini and Pietro Lo Monaco, leading the latter to resign from his position as sporting director.
As a result, the club also announced the return of Perinetti, who filled the same role with Palermo last season and described his departure last summer "the saddest decision" of his life.
