Fan arrested for attacking 'keeper

The supporter who attacked Wycombe goalkeeper Jordan Archer as he prepared to take a goal-kick during Monday night's game against Gillingham has been arrested.

Towards the end of Wycombe's 1-0 victory at Priestfield, Archer - who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur - was set to restart the game when a fan entered the field of play and flung himself at the goalkeeper. The fan was quickly apprehended by stewards and led away.

"Some people give the rest of the Gillingham fans a bad name," Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth told Sky Sports 1. "I don't want to comment too much, but everyone is okay in there."

The 19-year-old goalkeeper was amazingly booked following the incident, having kicked the ball away, even though stewards were still wrestling with the fan on the ground at the time.

On Tuesday morning it was confirmed the teenage supporter had been arrested. Kent Police said: "A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody following an incident in the 93rd minute of the Gillingham v Wycombe match last night.''

In October, a Leeds United supporter attacked Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and was jailed for four months.
