Victory's Ansell out for up to 8 weeks

Young Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell could miss the start of his side's A-League finals campaign after scans revealed a serious groin injury.

Ansell suffered the injury in the derby clash with Melbourne Heart last Saturday night and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

His tendon has pulled part of the bone attachment away, however he doesn't require surgery.

The 19-year-old last week signed a three-year deal with the club.

"Obviously this is disappointing as Nick has been really good for us since he made his debut back in round 11 against Brisbane Roar," said coach Ange Postecoglou.

"It's always hard for those guys who didn't have the benefit of a full pre-season to get through an entire campaign unscathed and unfortunately that's the case with Nick."

The Victory, who are second on the ladder, next face Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

There are eight rounds remaining before the finals.
